Simply put, the
Hurricanes’ philosophy is to promote excellence in soccer and
sportsmanship. Although the Hurricanes strive to win every match, the team
understands that winning is not the ultimate goal.
The team is gracious in defeat and humble in victory. These attributes serve the Hurricanes
well both on and off the field.
The Hurricanes
seek to maximize a player’s individual skills while at the same time
emphasizing the importance of teamwork.
Central to the
Hurricanes’ program is a dual emphasis on individual skill
development and team tactical training which allows our players to develop
to their full potential. The
Hurricanes training regimen is rigorous, but coach has created an
environment that is also fun and conducive to learning. This enables the team to improve their
individual skills and decision making, grow together as a team, develop a
passion for the sport of soccer, and understand the values of
sportsmanship.
The team employs
an exciting and aggressive style of play, using possession passing and runs
into space to create numerous opportunities to attack. This style has paid off – the
Hurricanes have scored 658 goals in 228 outdoor matches in 12 seasons of
play. We are also proud of our
defense too which has allowed only 179 goals and registered 119 shut-outs
during this timeframe.
Even though competing and succeeding at this level requires a great
deal of time and sacrifice, the players also excel in academics and other athletic
pursuits unrelated to soccer.
Several Hurricanes are accomplished at basketball, baseball,
swimming, tennis, chess, and music.
Many of the Hurricanes also participate as “buddies” in
the TOP Soccer program, helping disabled children from age 3 to 19 learn to
love the game of soccer.
