Coach
In fall the Hurricanes will be coached by David Kenna, who holds UEFA
"A" and NSCAA National Licenses and has coached NCSL teams for 15+
years. He has aided his teams to
multiple State Cup Championships and Regional success. A former semi professional player in
Ireland, David has run his own soccer company, been the Technical Director
of Herndon Youth Soccer, been awarded “World Cup ’94 Volunteer
Achievement Award for Educational Programs”, created and implemented
the MPS Girls U-9 through U-11 Developmental model, and been the Age Group
Director for MPS U-14 & older team implementing a “competitive” model.
Assistant Coach
The Hurricanes’ outgoing coach, Marcelo Valencia will stay involved
with the team as assistant coach. He
is the Head Varsity Coach of the Potomac School in Mclean, VA, holds USSF
"B" and National Youth Licenses and has coached NCSL and WAGS
teams for 10+ years. A former
professional player with Washington Warthogs and Philadelphia Kixx, Marcelo attended George Washington University, was four time Atlantic 10 first team member, Atlantic 10 Player of
the year (1992) and member of the Atlantic 10 25th Anniversary soccer team.
Functional Training - McLean Premier Soccer (MPS)
The Hurricanes also receive
training during the year through the McLean Premier Soccer (MPS)
program which provides some of best coaches and clinicians in the Washington
area, including Clyde Watson (recently the head coach of Washington Freedom).
In addition, Hurricanes’ players do fitness and speed training with "Explosive
Performance".
